It's only day three and it feels like it's been forever. Which is fabulous, more time to spend exploring even more of the city. It has all been so exciting thus far. Me, Katy, and Gina are rooming with the Jenna. Who is absolutely awesome! She has brought a lot of laughter to our group. The hostel is well...a hostel. It is home right now, so it's alright to come home to. It's the largest hostel in Europe, with over 800 beds. They have students our age coming from all over the world to stay here. We've meet people from Australia mainly, a few Belgians as well. Breakfast consists of toast and cereal, while dinner is alright for the most part (hey it's free..so that's nice) and there hasn't been anything so far that has strayed away from American food.
Right now I'm typing at an Internet "place" inside a mall in the Theater district of London. It is not a cafe at all, as it is in a mall that is basically filled with arcades, kinda weird, but it's only £1 for an hour, which is about $1.40 right now. Cheaper than our hostel...and I'm with 5 other girls who came along: Katy, Gina, Jenna, Jenee, and Justine. We explored downtown London together and are just bumming around until The 39 Steps performance starts at the Theatre across the street at 8pm, in about an hour.
I am having such a blast, words can't describe. There is so much to explore and immerse ourselves in. I've only had one class so far, a Theatre class, just an introduction to the class was all. Went to Avenue Q last night - hilarious! It was a semi-long walk to the theater in misty weather, but we found it! Afterwards, we went out a Pub called The Court, a cute little place on the corner.
A few things that are so hard to get used to includes driving on the opposite side of street! Which means as pedestrians we walk on the opposite side and also have to look the opposite way then what we're used to when crossing. Also, every one's accents! They are so cute though. The police are called "the buppies" (sp?) and we hear such things as "sorry mate" going down the street.
After breakfast the three of us have been going down to a market two blocks from the hostel and picking up fruit for breakfast. It's nice to have almost everything within walking distance. But we do have an Oyster (Yes, it's called an Oyster) card to use on the underground or double decker red buses. We'll be taking the underground home after the performance tonight - it'll be my second time using it in London as we used it earlier today to get closer to downtown.
It's been so much fun being here, all of us on the trip are so open to being friends with one another and sharing in the laughter and happiness we all have! From imitating British accents and trying to find public bathrooms that we don't have to pay for (McDonald's helped us out on that one).
Gina, Katy, and I visited Platform 9 3/4 (Harry Potter) at King's Cross Station, and faked push the cart into the wall to "disappear" and we weren't the only ones there either! However it was quite funny when we asked the information desk to find 'the Harry Potter platform', he just looked at us and said, 'You're sad...' It was really funny! He also told us as we were leaving to 'not disappear'!!! It was absolutely hilarious.
Hopefully pictures will be up shortly, I'm going to try and upload them from this computer! :) I am having a blast! So much has happened, and still so much to come. Write more later...from the UK.
